Wild Herbs Restaurant - Where To Eat in Subic

Looking for the best wine

Every once in a while you get happily surprised. Our friend Dorothy invited us to have dinner in a restaurant we had never heard of before. It was an ordinary weekday and since it was a rush hour we had a hard time getting public transport. However, in the end, we managed and boy was it worth the effort!

Wild Herbs Restaurant's Location

The place is located along the highway in Barrio Barretto, a fifteen to 20-minute ride only. Upon entering I immediately noticed that it was a small restaurant, the size of an average living room. Not too many tables and at the far end a small bar. No plastic tables and chairs here but everything made of firm wood. Soft red cushions make sure one is very comfortable. Two friendly waitresses completed the pleasant, welcome feeling.

We started it off with Shrimp Ukoy, a tasty fried shrimp fritter. For the main course, Manong Pundaquit ordered Thai Tom Yum Goong, a soup with shrimp and mushrooms as the main ingredients. Very spicy I can say. After he tried it his face spoke volumes. Angel, Dorothy's sister had Chicken Kebab. Dorothy had Thai Chicken Curry and yours sincerely had Thai Pork with peanut sauce. And it was finger-licking good! I had the chance to have a little talk with the cook, a Filipino lady who learned cooking Thai food in Thailand. That explained a lot.

Two days ago we went there again and Manong Pundaquit stuck to the Thai Tom Yum Goong while I switched to Singapore Chili Shrimp. For dessert I got interested in the Deep Fried Ice Cream: Strawberry Ice Cream in a crispy coating. Delicious! Again, we had a really tasty adventure.

We now learned that the cook is also the owner (who goes by the name of Jocelyn) of the place that exists for three years now, since June 2015 to be precise. She is a very charming lady, who will help the waitresses when needed.
