Tibag Falls in Subic, Zambales |
Tibag Falls
Tibag Falls is located in Sitio Tibag, Barangay Naugsol, Subic, Zambales. Nestled in the forested part of Subic beside Barangay Batiawan, this waterfall can be reached in an hour from its jump-off point at Tibag Elementary School.
With a population of 2,046 (Wikipedia), my expectation to see an Aeta Community didn't happen, we barely saw an Aeta in the area. In fact, just one - the tricycle driver who brought us back to our meeting place was the lone Aeta encountered.
Hiking Tibag Falls
Despite the on and off rain, we pushed through our planned hiking. Rain Ponchos were at our disposal bought for the group courtesy of Ms. Kathya.
Upon reaching Tibag Elementary School, we asked the locals for a guide. We didn't register at Naugsol Barangay Hall because their Facebook Page answered our queries three days after our hiking.
The muddy trail had few overgrowths which meant it has been established. There were mango trees along the way as well as bananas. The view wasn't special but it is fun when you're out in the wild.
Tibag Falls is not desirable for swimming on its basin nor jumping during the rainy season. Why? Because its water creates a circular strong current pulling you into the deep plunge pool. Our guide Nick, told us under the big boulder close to the pool, was a cave-like spot submerged underwater.
We managed to swim in the shallow part of the basin. Downstream also looked nice but we didn't try to swim but rather we stayed on top of the waterfall's source where we had our late lunch.
