After a Sunday morning of doing thoroughly cleaning, the idea of going out for lunch was very appealing. We decided to go to Chopping Board, a place where we have been twice before and had good experiences. Much to our surprise, the restaurant was now called Crab and Belly. My first thought: “Who wants crabs and a belly?”

The Crab and Belly Restaurant |
New was the outdoor terrace with a bar. Inside we were happy to find one table available; window seats! For the baby, a special chair was brought. A waiter immediately came and offered us the menus. Our lady friend picked her all time favourite bulalo, my friend chose pinakbet and I had an eye for the spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs. We did not have to wait too long before the bulalo and pinakbet arrived and soon after the spaghetti came. I guess there had been no time to make the meatballs so I got it served with ground pork. Of course, I know meatballs are made of ground pork but the good thing about that is that you can add some extra ingredients in it to make it outstanding. My friends had to call the waiter because after 10 minutes the rice still had not arrived.
Soon I heard that the bulalo tasted ordinary; nothing outstanding and in the pinakbet the squash was very dominating. The spaghetti, although tasty, could have been a bit more al dente and of course, the meatballs were really missing.

For desert, a halo-halo served in a coconut and enough for three persons was ordered. It came however with one spoon so again we had to call the waiter. After we divided it over 3 smaller bowls we really enjoined it. For once this halo-halo was not that sweet as common.

All in all, we decided that since we did not notice anything spectacular, the place was too far away for us and one of us said: “Never again”. I guess the three of us agreed.

Nevertheless, I would say “Let’s give it another try once since these guys are just new in the business and they deserve a second chance because I could tell they are really trying hard to make it a good place. The way the food was served looked good and nice so…”
Crab and Belly is located at Lincoln Street Subic Bay Freeport Zone and opens at 7AM to 10:30PM.
