Mabiga Falls in Morong Bataan |
"Come Visit the Wonders of Morong!" That's what Mr. Ben Samonte, a local guide in Morong, Bataan always says on his Facebook account. He often showcases the hidden waterfalls and other natural wonders of his town as a good environmentalist and home town advocate. Being teased by his photographs of waterfalls in Morong, we decided to pay a visit to Mabiga Falls.
Mabiga Falls: The Two-Tiered Waterfalls in Morong
Hidden in the jungle of Barangay Sabang in Morong, these two-tiered waterfalls enjoy their solitude under a thick canopy. The top-level has a height of approximately 25 to 30 feet with a horsetail like flow. Its water basin is wide for swimming but not deep enough for diving.

Small to huge rocks were scattered along the banks and can be slippery during the rainy season. It doesn't dry up during the summer months but its water torrent will be less. After heavy rain, the water was unpleasant and muddy-like when we visited.

The lower level can be considered both a Plunge and Punchbowl type of waterfall. It has an overhang that is accessible if you want to hear the roaring sound of the waterfall under it. Its water torrent during our visit was magnificent creating a curtain-like flow onto its water basin.

Its basin is circular with a depth of six to seven feet. Jumping in the pool is possible and of course, swimming.

The trail was muddy but it is just a short walk from the road. Around ten to fifteen minutes of trekking, you will hear the sound of rushing water. Plants like bamboo and gabi or taro are thinly scattered in the area.

Mabiga Falls is being developed. Nipa Huts will be strategically erected close to the banks for family and friends' picnics. Overgrowths are being removed and in fact, when we visited the place, bamboos were lying along the way. Soon, Magiba Falls will be a hangout for nature lovers.

A nice view of a mountain as we trek to the waterfalls. |
