Our good friend left her son home with her dad and suggested we have lunch somewhere. Our tour started in Subic. We drove and passed several restaurants, most of them already visited by us. Others did not even look attractive enough to leave the car for. Then out of the blue, we saw a good looking place called Pirates Bistro. This one too, like many others belonged to a hotel.

Upon entering I was pretty much impressed. At first by the sight of two fish tanks behind the bar. Wood in front had two huge holes so it looked like potholes. The restaurant itself was very clean and had wooden tables and chairs. Ornaments on the wall all referred to pirate ships.

A very friendly waitress came to bring the menus and we did not need to think too long before making our choice. My housemate and our friend opted for the chicken. Yours truly had a big eye for pizza with ground beef, bacon, and sausage in hickory BBQ. I don't know exactly why but it seemed very attractive! Drinks were served in a very friendly way. All was perfect so far. Sure, the waitress had forgotten to open my bottle of beer and she apologized a thousand times when I went to the bar to have it opened. Things like this can and might happen. Better than a restaurant without gas, cheese, and shrimp right? (see Curry Leaf).

Our friend had also ordered a platter of nacho chips. I noticed that wherever that one is on the menu she always does. One might think it is addictive. The pizza served on a wooden platter while the chicken was flown in small aluminium buckets. Side dishes and mayonnaise also came in aluminium bowls. May I feel ashamed a bit but the pizza was gone in the blink of an eye! I simply could not resist the taste. My tablemates were very satisfied as well although there was some doubt about the quality of the mayonnaise.

While they needed some more time getting the chicken meat from the bones, I took the opportunity to smoke a cigarette. Yes, I know it is bad but old habits die hard. However, I had the opportunity to walk around a bit. Part of the hotel is a beautiful lounge with great seats. A big lawn gives room for several tables. At the end of the lawn is a small playground for children.

Very tasty spicy chicken - one of the best in Subic!

In the past, we have visited several places with the thought "This was a never again experience." The Pirates Bistro, however, is not included in those places. Location, ambiance, service, and food are very satisfying and I guess the pictures will show.
